This is a collection of songs I’ve written and recorded in 2024 and 2025.
“Mad Girl’s Love Song”, (Words Sylvia Plath, Music Kevin Zibell, 2024).I came across this poem by Sylvia Plath, written in 1953 when she was about 20. I thought it would make a good song, so put it to music. I’m singing and playing bass. Couldn’t get anyone else to join in, so the restis digital instruments following my scores.“Will it Turn to Mud”,(Kevin Zibell 2021), Kev bass & vocals, Oz lead guitar, Donny rhythm guitar“Heartstrings”, (Kevin Zibell 2023). I may have been influenced by certain well-publicised media stories when writing this. (Kev vocals, Don arpeggio guitar, other instruments playing my score using digital samples.“Summer Fantasy”, (Kevin Zibell 2023). I love the bass line and general feel of “Punky’s Dilemma” by Paul Simon, and wanted to write something along those lines. I do the vocals and bass, Oz plays lead, Donny Rhythm.“Something About a Cat”, (Kevin Zibell, 2024). I wrote the bass line, clarinet part and guitar chords using digital instruments to play them. Drums and keys are also digital. One day I might get around to playing the bass and getting others to join in, eg on guitar.“Simplicity (Living in the Wind)”(Kevin Zibell 2024). I’m playing bass and singing, Oz is on lead guitar. The rest are digital instruments following my scores and chosen samples.“Happiness Engineer” (music Kevin Zibell 2024, lyrics Don Newman 2025). I was bemused when I came across Happiness Engineers in various on-line circumstances and wrote the music, but couldn’t get inspired for lyrics, so Donny helped out. He sings and plays rhythm guitar, Oz is on lead guitar and I play bass and wrote the scores for sampled digital instruments.“Once You Felt Free”, (Kevin Zibell, 2025). Two survivors of the 60’s-70’s reflect on what’s happening today. I’m singing, playing bass, Oz is on lead guitar. Digital instruments follow my scores.
