The Avengers recorded new originals over a couple of years. Here they are, grouped by author. We’ve decided this will be the final effort to record our originals as a live band—time and distance are the major factors. These have been done with Rob (aka Pud) and Don coming to the greenshed several times, while Oz has sent his bits over the internet. Donny has also recorded some of his parts and mixed and mastered some tracks from Melbourne.
Oz’s Songs:
Looking Back in Time (O. Zibell)
Ballad of a River Man (O. Zibell)
Just Me and You (O. Zibell)
My Time (O. Zibell)
Rainy Day Blues (O. Zibell)
That Girl I Knew (O. Zibell)
Don’s Songs:
20 Years Ago (D. Newman)
Soldier’s Bride (D. Newman)–Martin Scuffins, fiddle
Lazy Morning (D. Newman). Melody inspired by Woody Guthrie’s “California Stars” as sung by Billy Bragg and Wilco.
That’s Not Right (D. Newman)
Oh Darlin’ (D. Newman). Martin Scuffins playing fiddle.
Kev’s Songs:
Now and Then (K. Zibell)–I wanted to write something in 12/8 and this is the result
A Clapton Dream (K. Zibell)–I dreamt I was on a pirate ship playing guitar with Eric Clapton. The tune we played stuck as the guitar riff, and I wrote the song around it.
Einstein or Fred (K. Zibell)–I can thank the late philosopher Dicky Murphy for the inspiration for these words of wisdom
Night Drivin’ (K. Zibell)—written after a drive home from Maldon following a Suitcase Full of Blues gig a couple of years ago
Reality Bites (K. Zibell)—iinspired by the moral contradictions coming from our current crop of political leaders, and hoping for the future for our succeeding generations (ps, thanks to the “Grab Ya’ Cat” brass boys for the backing horns).
Sourdough Shuffle (K. Zibell)–just a bit of fun using a shuffle rhythm
