Unfinished Business vol 1 Re-mixed March 2020

I’ve re-mixed all tracks aiming for a warmer and more natural sound and better drum tones

Commentary on the songs from Jack who wrote them!

1. Cold and Velvet Blue. (this is a 2022 re-mix)

These images from the sixties lurked in my mind until they emerged thirty years later.

 2. Feast Tonight.

Recounts a fishing experience on King Sound, north of Broome.

 3. Red Dust

More reflections on the Broome experience.

 4.  Back to the Wall.

Argumentative? Moi?

5. Laanecoorie Sunsets.

Bridgewater was actually the Loddon swimming hole and romancing spot of choice in the golden youth of a Bendigo boy – I only swam at Laanecoorie much later, but one balmy sunset evening in particular was magic.

 6. Rubber on the Road.

This song had its beginnings in a much more prosaic vehicular incident, but I won’t embarrass anyone or detract from the final product by going into details!

 7. Another Country.

A true-ish account of a convict ancestor.

8. The Dark Side of the Moon.

Having been something of a stargazer and not being particularly focused on the musical mainstream, I thought this was a pretty original name. Dave thought it was a pretty good warm-up song for his wedding.

 9. Salt in the Wound.

Perspicacious listeners might detect echoes of the last episode of a long-running TV comedy – without the happy ending.

 10. Bellarine Dream.

a good day in Queenscliff, 1998.

 11. Modern Girls.

Loosely inspired by a kerfuffle at Ormond College and Helen Garner’s response in “The First Stone”.

12. Generosity.

Moving on from “Salt in the Wound” – another angle on relationships and life changes.

 13. Bitter Wind in Attica.

Having a bad day in Athens, 1999.

 14. Night Train.

I guess the overnight interstate train travel experience has largely been replaced by the international jet flight.  Doesn’t have half the romance, or the rhythm of the wheels. Come to think of it, neither do fast trains on modern welded tracks.  Oh well!
